"I can't edit anything I didn't upload myself, I can't seem to add anything to collections in any way, I can only set one single single collection when uploading stuff, and I can't manage that when editing the item, and I can't even contact uploaders to discus things like this."

all true and is that way by design. we only modify items we did not create at the request of the uploader. i'd suggest leaving a review with the information and the uploader will be notified of the review.

That seems like a messy workaround for a proper inter-user messaging system, or a general comments system, to be honest.

The fact reviews require leaving a star rating also makes me wonder if this rating is supposed to represent the quality of the uploaded thing itself, or the quality of the upload and its metadata.

Platforms like Stack Overflow have an "suggest an edit" feature to make management like this a lot smoother so users without the actual editing rights can help contribute in corrections more easily.
